Camp Lowden Axe

Recently a "Camp Lowden axe" was posted on eBay and was subsequently acquired by former staff member Bruce Richardson and myself. Please see the attached photo of same (front and back). It is very small...the axe handle is only 6" long and the metal part is only 4 inches long.

We are trying to get more information on this axe. I.e., when it was made and why. An end-of-year staff totem? Giveaway item from the handicraft area?

Do the letters "KB" and the numerals "48" stand for anything (see the full-size image)? I do not show any staff members from that year with those initials.

If anybody has any information whatsoever on this axe, please contact me.
